General Practice Services

The general practitioners at our facility offer a variety of clinical services to keep you and your family in good health

At Martin Place Family Medical Centre, all consulting practitioners are dedicated to providing a wide range of general medical services to help you and your family maintain your overall well-being. Whether you need preventive care, treatment for a common illness, or support for a chronic condition, the medical team at our facility is available to offer personalised and compassionate care every step of the way.

Most of the doctors at Martin Place Family Medical Centre have a special interest in women’s health. All consulting practitioners acknowledge that women’s physical and emotional health needs are broad and complex, evolving further with age, fertility and environmental factors.

MPFMC practitioners understand that supporting your health is not only vital for your individual well-being, but the well-being of your family, friends and work life. The many GPs who specialise in women’s health at our facility are also trained in delivering personalised advice and treatment plans tailored to your unique health needs.

At Martin Place Family Medical Centre, all consulting practitioners recognise the importance of prevention in improving men’s health outcomes. As men statistically attend health consultations less frequently than women, they are encouraged to return to our facility for regular checkups.

Taking preventative steps to identify potential health risks early in your child’s development is important. Ensure your child’s health today by talking to one of the doctors at Martin Place Family Medical Centre, who are more than happy to answer any of your questions and help you track your child’s development with regular check-ups.

Services offered in regular check-ups:

  • Growth and Development Checks
  • Childhood Vaccinations
  • Managing Chronic Conditions

We understand that children may have a natural apprehension about seeing a doctor, especially when they are ill. We can assure you that all MPFMC doctors provide child health services and work with you and the patient’s family to create a safe and reassuring environment.

MPFMC general practitioners and nurses keep up to date with the latest changes to the National Immunisation Program (NIP). All childhood immunisations administered at Martin Place Family Medical Centre are uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to assist with family payments and school enrolment.

Martin Place Family Medical Centre is a Licensed Travel Vaccination Centre, enabling GPs to provide a range of travel resources, advice and vaccines including Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Meningococcal, Polio and Tetanus, and travel vaccination certificates (Yellow Books).

If you have booked a Travel Medicine consultation, please print out the Travel Health Questionnaire and bring the completed questionnaire to your appointment. Details about your intended travel (including countries, length of stay, types of planned activities), as well as your vaccination history, will enable your doctor to provide the best possible advice.

Chronic disease management plans form part of our commitment to the health of our local community. All MPFMC doctors can provide management plans for patients who suffer with a chronic medical condition.

A chronic medical condition is one that has been present for six months or longer. Chronic medical conditions include:

  • Asthma
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Stroke

A GP Management Plan (GPMP) can help people with chronic medical conditions by providing an organised approach to care.

Many of the doctors at our facility have special interests in ear, nose and throat services, trained in delivering support for diagnosing, managing and treating conditions related to your ears, nose and throat.

All doctors at Martin Place Family Medical Centre can refer eligible patients, with iron deficiency anaemia, for on-site infusion. This model offers considerable savings compared to the traditional day-surgery model (the current out-of-pocket cost after rebate is ~$260 or $130 for concession patients). Please speak to your GP for more information.

All doctors at Martin Place Family Medical Centre have extensive experience in Mirena (hormonal IUD) insertion and removal procedures, which may be performed in one of our treatment rooms.

There are certain requirements and risks involved with the Mirena IUD. If you are considering an IUD insertion, please be prepared to first discuss your suitability for the IUD, upon which you may get a prescription and undergo the insertion procedure in your second consultation.

If interested, please let one of our receptionists know, as you will need to see a GP for the aforementioned examination prior to having the IUD inserted.

After hours care is provided by Doctor Doctor, on 13 26 60.

Doctors at NHDS may make a home visit on request if they service your area, and patients are bulk-billed. Our practice receives a written report of consultations the following day.

In an acute emergency, please ring 000 for an ambulance.

In non-emergencies or in the case of an accident, after-hours care is available at local public hospitals such as Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Public Hospital, and Box Hill Public Hospital, as well as 24-hour A&E departments at private hospitals such as the Valley Private and Knox Private, where a facility and consultation fee will be charged.
